Some interesting news from right here in my back yard this week…
The Des Moines Register reported that a laptop was stolen along with other items stolen during a home burglery. The computer had a location-monitoring type of anti-theft package installed.
Reportedly when the thieves logged into the Internet with the laptop, the anti-theft software sent an alert that, through ISP logs, led to the address where the computer was being used. When police arrested the suspects they also found ice methamphetamine and other illegal drugs.
Pretty cool that the laptop security not only got the computer back, but it also got a few more drug thugs off the street…at least for a while.
