Company Uses Negotiated Checks For Packing Material!

Not much surprises me any more with regard to some of the silly things that organizations do with printed PII that put the involved individuals at risk.
However, I was surprised when I watched an ABC News report this morning…

Old Checks Still Worth Something.”
A “Texas company” used cut-up negotiated checks as packing material!
The checks appeared to be cut into wide strips, and the video showed how easily they were put back together to see all the information, including bank account numbers, names, addresses, signatures, the party to which they were made out, and everything else you put on a check.
What were they thinking!?
They apparently weren’t thinking.
There was no information given about the “Texas company,” but this very well could be a violation of the FACTA Disposal Rule.
