Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day! It was a gorgeous day here in central Iowa! I did business work all morning, but then took off at 3:00pm, went out with my family to a restaurant we all love, and then did some gardening; tomatoes, turnips, watermelon, peppers, pumpkins, sunflowers and sweet corn this year…plus a few pretty assorted annuals! The fruit trees, red buds, crab apple trees, Russian olives, and wigelias are all in full bloom right now…and the scent of the breeze is spectacular! 🙂
In honor of Mother’s Day I quickly scanned the news and blog sites to see what types of interesting information I could find relating to mother’s day and privacy. I didn’t find much, but here is a bit of what I found…

“A majority of the House GOP has voted against motherhood. On Wednesday afternoon, the House had just voted, 412 to 0, to pass H. Res. 1113, “Celebrating the role of mothers in the United States and supporting the goals and ideals of Mother’s Day,” when Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.), rose in protest.”

Huh?

“Republicans, unhappy with the Democratic majority, have been using such procedural tactics as this all week to bring the House to a standstill, but the assault on mothers may have gone too far. House Minority Leader John Boehner, asked yesterday to explain why he and 177 of his colleagues switched their votes, answered: “Oh, we just wanted to make sure that everyone was on record in support of Mother’s Day.” By voting against it? If Boehner’s explanation doesn’t make much sense, he’s been under a great deal of stress lately.”

Oh, brother! Is it any wonder information security and privacy practitioners are going crazy trying to comply with the data protection requirements of dozens of U.S. federal laws when politicians apparently know not what they do??? Good grief…

“The problem: High-definition video is the Humvee of broadband, guzzling five times as much capacity as regular video. Once high-definition video takes off, bandwidth consumption, now at a record high, could blow into the stratosphere, Morin says. “We’re into a new world now,” he says. “Bandwidth planning for the peak of Mother’s Day (calling) just doesn’t work any more.””

And how ’bout one more…
No, I think not. I found another, and actually had the blurb written, but it was really a downer…even more so than the Republicans voting against motherhood…
Hope you had a great day!
